UEFA: Congress elects Evelina Christillin (ITA) as the female member to the FIFA Council

The only candidate, Evelina Christillin (ITA), was announced as the female member to the FIFA Council by the UEFA Congress, who met in Athens (GRE) on 14/09/2016. It was during this same 12th extraordinary Congress that the Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin became UEFA president, elected with 42 votes against 13 for the Dutchman Michael van Praag.

"The FIFA Council (which replaced the FIFA Executive Committee) is the non-executive supervisory board that defines the strategy and vision of FIFA and world football," said FIFA, under the new statutes adopted on 26/02/2016 and which entered into force on 27/04/2016.

The deadline for confederations to elect new Council members, in accordance with the statutes and regulations of FIFA Governance, is 30/09/2016. The first meeting of the FIFA Council in its new composition will be held on 13 and 14/10/2016 in Zurich (SUI).
