UK: Sky invest $1m into the DRL (Drone Racing League) which is to be broadcast on Sky Sports Mix

Sky plc invested $1m (€890,000) into the Drone Racing League (DRL), on 14/09/2016. In addition to this investment, Sky has partnered with the DRL which enables the television group to broadcast, in the UK and Ireland, ten drone races from the 2016 season. The entire competition will be broadcast on Sky Sports Mix, the new Sky channel launched on 25/08/2016.

Sky's investment is part of a larger investment fund of $12m (€10.7m) involving the German broadcaster ProSieben, MGM Studios, the investment fund CAA Ventures, and Matthew Ballamy, the lead singer of the alternative rock band Muse. The Drone Racing League signed distribution partnerships identical to that of Sky with the ESPN group for the rights to broadcast in the United States, as well as with 7Sports, a subsidiary of ProSieben, for the broadcasting rights on the European continent, on 14/09/2016.
