The social network Twitter drew 2.1 million users for the Buffalo Bills - New York Jets (31-37) game, which was the first streaming broadcast of an NFL game on Twitter, on 15/09/2016. 243,000 fans watched an average of at least 22 minutes of the American football game. At the same time, Twitter launched free apps for users of Xbox One or the connected TV's Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV to enjoy the distribution of its sports content.

The social network Twitter acquired the digital broadcasting rights to 10 of the potential 18 games of the "Thursday Night Football" package (American football on Thursday night), the NFL announced on 05/04/2016. This agreement will also allow Twitter to broadcast the highlights of "Thursday Night Fooball" games, and to broadcast the pre-game and post-game coverage via its subsidiary Periscope, the live video streaming application.
