Schalke 04 terminate the contract signed on 01/07/2013 with online ticket marketplace Viagogo

Schalke 04 (4th in the Bundesliga in 2012/13) have terminated their partnership with the online ticket marketplace Viagogo, the club announced on the 09/07/2013. This decision was taken 9 days after the contract between the two parties was signed on the 01/07/2013. The German club are relinquishing an agreement that would see them receive €1.2m per year for three seasons (2013/14 to 2015/16)

Viagogo allows season ticket holders of partner clubs to re-sell their tickets for matches that they can no longer attend. "Viagogo has not respected the terms of our contract, despite repeated appeals from the club," said Clemens Tonnies, president of Schalke 04. The German side has accused Viagogo of offering ticket prices much higher than those at the club. "We have fulfilled all aspects of our contract. The club's decision to end our partnership after just one week has surprised us a lot," the Swiss company said.

A supporters' group called 'ViaNOgo' was formed at the end of the 2012/13 season to put pressure on club officials not to sign an agreement with the online ticket marketplace. "My…
