2018 World Cup in Russia: official opening of the Kazan Arena (capacity: 45,000)

The Kazan Arena (capacity: 45,000 - Russian Republic of Tatarstan) was officially opened by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the opening ceremony of the XXVIIth Summer Universiade on the 07/07/2013.

This university games, organised by FISU (International University Sports Federation), involves over 13,000 athletes from 162 countries, playing 27 sports in Kazan from the 07/07 to the 17/07/2013.

The Kazan Arena is the first new generation stadium in Russia. It will host several 2018 World Cup matches. The construction cost, originally budgeted at €260m, reached €360m (+38%), a cost of €8k per seat. The increased expenditure in due, in part, to the addition of a 4200m2 LED screen on the outside of the stadium.

The stadium was designed by the architectural firm HOK Sport U.S..
