Premier League: a first virtual reality test for BT Sport for Arsenal-Chelsea, on 24/09/2016

The pay-TV channel BT Sport broadcast, in virtual reality, Arsenal FC - Chelsea FC on Saturday, 24/09/2016 (kick-off at 18:30 CET), following a BT Sport announcement on 23/09/2016. This was the first virtual reality test for BT Sport who offered this activation in four EE stores in London, the British mobile phone operator and Internet access provider who are a subsidiary of BT Mobile.

"BT is delighted to be bringing fans even closer to the action. We hope fans enjoy experiencing all the highs and lows of a football match via virtual reality. Fans and viewers are at the heart of our coverage and this is a great opportunity to experience this innovative new technology live in four of EE’s top London stores." said Jamie Hindhaugh, COO of BT Sport, on 23/10/2016.

BT Sport filmed the entire match with virtual reality cameras and they worked with the LiveLike virtual reality platform. The channel offered fans four different views.

  • Virtual reality headsets and tablets were available in four EE stores in London (Westfield Stratford, Oxford Street, Marble Arch and Tottenham Court Road).
