Ligue 1: Paris Saint-Germain create an eSports franchise in partnership with Webedia

Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1) have created an eSports franchise, "Paris Saint-Germain eSport", that will represent the club in video game competitions, and will be composed of "internationally renowned professional players," announced the Parisian club on 04/10/2016.

The Paris Saint-Germain eSport franchise has been created in partnership with the Webedia group, who specialise in leisure and online entertainment. The creation of this franchise is part of an expansion plan and internationalisation of eSports activities, presented by Webedia on 04/10/2016, and includes the purchase of Oxent, who specialise in the organisation of eSports competitions.

"By becoming the first French sports club to engage in this sector, Paris Saint-Germain will strengthen its ties with the club’s existing fans, win new ones and showcase our brand worldwide," stated PSG. The club added it will also hold a press conference "at the end of October 2016" to give details on the operation of its eSport franchise.
