LaLiga: Alex Aranzabal will not stand for president, Javier Tebas sole candidate on 18/10/2016

Alex Aranzabal will not be stand for the presidency of LaLiga, since he does not have the necessary number (11 clubs) of supporters to participate in the election, announced the former president of SD Eibar (LaLiga Santander), late on 04/10/2016.

Alex Aranzabal had announced, on 28/09/2016, his intention to be a candidate for election to the presidency of the Spanish League, scheduled for 18/10/2016. To be officially be a candidate, a person must have the support of 11 of the 42 Spanish professional clubs, filed by Wednesday, 05/10/2016, the deadline for the submission of applications. According to several Spanish media outlets, Alex Aranzabal may have managed to get the support of only five clubs.

This "snap election" for the presidency of LaLiga follows the resignation, on 21/09/2016, of Javier Tebas, whose term was scheduled to end in April 2017. However, Tebas, president of the Spanish League since April 2013, announced in his resignation the intention to run for another term of four years at the head of LaLiga.
