Euro 2020: the public groups ARD and ZDF acquire the full broadcasting rights for Germany

The German public broadcasting groups ARD and ZDF have acquired the entirety of audiovisual rights, for Germany, to Euro 2020, on 05/10/2016. These rights are valid for all TV, radio, and digital platforms. The rights were acquired by SportA, the marketing and media rights agency owned by ARD and ZDF, via CAA Eleven, the agency which markets the TV rights of national team competitions of UEFA. No financial details were disclosed.

"A sporting event with matches in thirteen different countries, this is a real challenge. ARD intends to use its expertise in sports and studios abroad. At the same time, we will try to share costs thanks to even closer cooperation with ZDF. Sports are an essential part of our programing. We will also inform the public extensively with global coverage around Euro 2020," said Ulrich Wilhelm, responsible for sports TV rights at ARD on 05/10/2016.

ARD and ZDF acquired the entire broadcasting rights, in Germany, for Euro 2016, from UEFA on 22/02/2012. The amount of the acquisition was estimated at between €160m and €180m, or €40m-€60m higher than the amount…
