LaLiga Santander: 47.52 million total Twitter followers for the 20 Spanish clubs (October 2016)

The 20 clubs in the 2016-17 LaLiga Santander season have a cumulative 47.52 million followers on the social network Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 06/10/2016. This result makes LaLiga Santander the most European Top 5 league on Twitter, with an average of 2.37 million followers per club.

Real Madrid CF are the most followed Spanish club, with 20.73 million Twitter followers, up 241,800 (+1.2%) compared with September 2016. Real Madrid are the top club in Europe in terms of followers on its main Twitter account, and second in the Top 5 leagues with most the most new followers in September 2016, after Manchester United FC (Premier League, +245,300).

FC Barcelona (2nd, 18.63 million Twitter followers) and Club Atlético de Madrid (3rd, 2.46 million) complete the Spanish podium. These three most followed clubs in Spain have a cumulative 41.83 million Twitter followers, or 88% of the total of 20 LaLiga Santander clubs.
