Premier League: 43.13 million total Twitter followers for the 20 English league clubs (October 2016)

The 20 clubs in the 2016-17 Premier League season have a cumulative 43.13 million followers on the social network Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 06/10/2016. The Premier League is ranked in second place in the European Top 5 leagues, behind LaLiga Santander, with an average of 2.15 million Twitter followers per club.

Manchester United FC are the most followed English club, with 8.92 million Twitter followers, up 245,300 ( 2.8%) compared to the beginning of September 2016. The Mancunian club is also the one who gained the most followers among all 98 clubs of the Top 5 leagues in the last past month. Arsenal FC (2^nd, 8.13 million Twitter followers) and Chelsea FC (3^rd, 7.41 million) complete the English podium.

West Bromwich Albion FC (506,000, +2.4%) became the 14^th English club to pass the 500,000 followers mark on Twitter, thus a level reached by 70% of Premier League clubs, but by only 23% (18 of 78) of the clubs of the other four Top 5 leagues.

The figures included only count the primary Twitter account of each club.
