Germany: Christian Frodl to leave the DFL to manage the sports rights of Sky Deutschland in 2017

The lawyer Christian Frodl will leave the DFL to join the team responsible for managing the audiovisual rights portfolio of Sky Deutschland. He will become the head of sports rights to Sky Deutschland in January 2017, indicated the DFL to News Tank Football on 07/10/2016. He will report to Hans Gabbe, the senior vice-president in charge of sports TV rights at Sky Deutschland since February 2016.

Christian Frodl will, in particular, be responsible for relations with the German League, where he spent nearly seven years as a lawyer and legal advisor. Before joining the DFL, Christian Frodl worked for various law firms, including Baker & McKenzie.

Sky Deutschland will pay an average of €876m per year for the 2017-2021 TV rights to the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga, announced the pay-TV group on 09/06/2016. Sky currently pays an average of €486m per year for the domestic TV rights in the existing agreement from 2013 to 2017, thus the new amount is an increase of 80% over the next period.
