World Cup 2022: Qatar plans to invest €153bn

Qatar will invest €153bn ($ 200bn) in preparation for the 2022 World Cup, according to the audit and consulting firm Deloitte, on the 09/07/2013. The overall budget does not specify the amount allocated to the construction of the ten stadiums planned for the competition, but provides information on transport and tourism infrastructures that will be created.

€107bn will be dedicated to the construction of several subway lines, tunnels, bridges, water treatment plants and new cities. In this programme, 13% of contracts have been awarded. The French construction group Vinci won the contract to build one of the four subway lines in Doha, capital of Qatar, which will link several stadiums of the 2022 World Cup, on the 05/06/2013. The amount of the agreement is estimated at €1.5bn.

Qatar plans to invest €15bn in its tourism infrastructure. The country expects 3.7m visitors in 2022, twice the current population of the country (1.9m inhabitants). The French group Bouygues is currently building a housing complex in the country, estimated at €1bn euros.
