The French media and entertainment conglomerate Vivendi and its subsidiary the Canal+ group have signed a partnership with the Electronic Sports League (ESL), an organiser of eSports tournaments, announced the three entities, on 11/10/2016.

"This partnership provides for the creation of the first official eSports league in France, on the basis of the current ESL National Championship event. With this partnership, these events will take on a new dimension and will be broadcast on the channels of the Canal+ group, which thus becomes a major actor in eSports in our country. Discussions are ongoing with major video game publishers to select the exact games covered by these competitions," explained the three groups.

Vivendi and Canal+ should therefore engage in organising and broadcasting eSports competitions. "Vivendi will provide important support to this initiative via Universal Music Group, Dailymotion, and the activities in the live events organisations such as as Olympia and Digitick," said the group on 11/10/2016.
