Spain: clubs have a debt of €230m to the public Treasury on 01/09/2016 (€-450m in 3 years)

The accumulated debt of Spanish professional football clubs to the Agencia Tributaria (the Spanish public Treasury) was €230m on 01/09/2016, announced LaLiga on 11/10/2016. This debt was €317m in September 2015, and has decreased by 27% (€-87 million) in one year.

Many Spanish clubs have signed, in April 2012, a protocol that initially obliged to not increase their debt with the Spanish Treasury and to be current in their payments, and, secondly, to gradually repay the amounts owed to be completely debt-free with the Treasury by 2020. In January 2013, the debt of LaLiga Santander and Laliga 1|2|3 clubs to Agencia Tributaria was €650m; it has since decreased by an average amount of €120m per year, and therefore stands at €230m (-64%) on 01/09/2016.

It is expected that this debt is reduced further to €79m in 2016-17, to stand at €151m in September 2017. By September 2020, the amount of debt for all Spanish professional football clubs under the "residual" debt of LaLiga should decrease to €70m.
