"The Spanish-Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez and (LOSC) president Michel Seydoux announced, this Sunday (16/10/2016), that they are in exclusive negotiations for the purchase of the LOSC club," announced the Lille-based club, on 16/10/2016.

"For one year, Gerard Lopez and his teams, notably including Marc Ingla, studied the French league, in hopes it would increase their chances of a takeover. In the light of objective criteria, such as the history of the clubs, the potential of their training centres, and their ability to win the Ligue 1 championship, they decided to enter into advanced discussions with some clubs," LOSC Lille stated.

"For several years I was not looking for a buyer, but a successor. It was essential that this person has the vision, capacity and a project for LOSC to continue to win titles. Discussions were underway for several months, and we are pleased to enter into exclusive negotiations with Gerard Lopez, who has the ideal profile to succeed me at LOSC," said Michel Seydoux, the president of LOSC Lille, on 16/10/2016.
