Portugal: Benfica TV to broadcast SC Farense (2nd division) home games until 2016

Benfica TV, the official TV channel of Lisbon club SL Benfica (2nd in the Liga Zon Sagres in 2012/13), has acquired the rights to broadcast Sporting Clube Farense (10th in the Portuguese 2nd division in 2012/13) matches, on the 12/07/2013.

These rights relate to Farense's home league matches over the 2013-2016 period.

"The agreement is valid regardless of the division in which SC Farense play over the next three years, including the 1st division," said António Barão, president of SC Farense.

  • In Portugal, TV rights are negotiated individually by clubs. Benfica, Sporting and FC Porto, the top three clubs in the country count for 70% of TV rights revenue in the Portuguese league, estimated at €75m per season.
  • On the 28/06/2013, Benfica announced that its league games at home in 2013/14 will be shown on pay-channel Benfica TV. 
  • Benfica TV is distributed by several satellite operators in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique. Subscription costs €10 per month.
