Cardiff City FC (Championship winners in 2012/13 and promoted to the Premier League for 2013/14) have agreed a one-year sponsorship deal with the Welsh Government's tourist board, worth £110k (€127k).

The deal, which will see 'Visit Wales' branding inside and outside the Cardiff City Stadium (capacity: 27,000), includes the renaming of the Canton Stand as the Croeso Stand (Welcome Stand). The partnership will also include pitch-side advertising, use of a hospitality box and advertising opportunities on screens in the stadium and car park.

The Welsh Government has had a similar sponsorship deal with Swansea City FC, since the club was promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2010/11 season.

  • "Cardiff is a dynamic, international city and a great place to visit and do business. This partnership will help us promote tourism and business opportunities in the capital city and across the whole of Wales." said Welsh economy minister Edwina Hart.
