NBA to broadcast one game per week in virtual reality, in partnership with NextVR

The digital production company NextVR and the NBA will broadcast one game per week in virtual reality during the 2016-17 season, which begins on Tuesday, 25/10/2016, announced the North American professional basketball league on 20/10/2016. The games will be streamed via the NextVR platform, and utilize the NBA League Pass subscription offer. This will be a multi-year partnership.

This is the first time a professional sports league will regularly broadcast a programme in this format. The virtual reality format will allow viewers to select different camera angles, replays, and manage and obtain statistics.

San Antonio Spurs - Sacramento Kings games will be the first to be broadcast in virtual reality, on 27/10/2016. The NBA announced that 30 games will be broadcast using this technology, but the full programme has not yet been communicated.
