Average attendance of the 5 major European leagues (2009-10 to 2015-16)

The Bundesliga retains the best attendance in Europe in 2015-16 with 43,325 spectators on average per match, ahead of the Premier League (36,409 average attendance) and the Liga BBVA (28,118).

After surpassing the Serie A TIM in average attendance in 2014-15, Ligue 1 has fallen back to 5th place of the European Top 5 leagues, with an average attendance of 20,894 in 2015-16. The Serie A returns to 4th place with an average of 22,011 spectators per match.


Note:
• 2019-20 season: the European Top 5 leagues were all suspended in March 2020 due to Covid-19. They then resumed behind closed doors (except for Ligue 1, which was definitively ended at the end of April) and the attendance figures therefore only concern matches played before the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
• 2020-21 season: played entirely or almost exclusively behind closed doors in the European Top 5 due to the health crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
