Spain: public group TVE acquires TV rights to the FA Cup for 2016-2018 for €2.4m (press)

The Spanish public television group TVE has acquired, from the FA, the 2016-2018 TV rights, valid in Spain, to the Emirates FA Cup, according to Spanish media on 29/10/2016.

The agreement, ratified at a meeting of the board of the Spanish public audiovisual group RTVE, could be worth €2.4m in total for the two years, an "exorbitant amount for a competition whose interest is practically zero" some managers have apparently said to RTVE, according to Spanish media. The FA Cup games could be broadcast on Teledeporte, a free multi-sports TV channel of RTVE.

• RTVE may have budgeted €1m to acquire the TV rights, valid in Spain, to the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled from 08 to 18/12/2016 in Japan, according to Spanish media on 29/10/2016.
  • Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander Spanish first division (20 clubs); naming rights contract to the bank Santander since 2016. ) will participate in this competition as the winner of the 2015-16 Champions League.
