adidas: Real Madrid and Bayern Munich wear kits made from plastic waste in the oceans

The FC Bayern Munich - TSG 1899 Hoffenheim match (1-1, Matchday 10 of the 2016-17 Bundesliga), on 05/11/2016, saw Bayern wear a home kit made of plastic fibres collected from sea waste, announced German sports equipment supplier adidas on 04/11/2016. Real Madrid CF, another club equipped by adidas, will wear kits of the same material against Real Sporting de Gijón (Matchday 13 of the 2016-17 LaLiga Santander), on 26/11/2016.

The kits will be seen on the pitch "for the first and only time" in these matches, according to adidas - and are made from recycled plastic waste collected on the shores of the Maldives by the association, Parley for the Oceans, of which adidas is one of the founding members. Parley for the Oceans conducts education and outreach programmes in marine pollution, as well as a limited programme of recovery and development of marine plastic waste.
