Maracana: Fluminense sign lease for 35 years as a resident club

Fluminense (Brazilian champions in 2012) have signed a 35-year lease with the Maracana SA Consortium to become the resident club of the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro (capacity: 78,800 seats), on the 16/07/2013. The Maracana SA private consortium (formed by Odebrecht Participações, Investimentos SA and Batista's sports, a joint venture between IMG) won the rights to lease the stadium on the 14/05/2013.

The agreement allows Fluminense to sell 43,000 tickets (54% of total capacity) for its home games. The club will generate revenue through a club shop to be built on the site. The Maracana Consortium will manage the 35,800 remaining tickets (46%), and operate the various hospitality areas of the stadium.

“We haven’t invested one real in the Maracana stadium and we will begin to make a profit immediately. Our expenses to play there are zero and we will have the profits of 43,000 seats," said Peter Siemsen, the Fluminense president.
