Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against their two-season ban from European cup competitions, following a rejected appeal by UEFA's (Union of European Football Associations) Appeals Body on the 15/07/2013. The CAS will make a final decision before the 28/08/2013, the instance announced on the 18/07/2013.

The suspensive effect of this appeal allows the club to participate in the draw for the third qualifying round of the Champions League, held at UEFA headquarters on the 19/07/2013.

Fenerbahçe were sanctioned by UEFA for their involvement in alleged match-fixing in 2011.

  • Another Turkish club, Besiktas, banned from the Europa League 2013/14 because of their involvement in match-fixing, have also appealed to the CAS.
  • Besiktas may therefore participate in the draw for the Europa League qualifiers on the 09/08/2013.
  • The CAS will make its decision before the 30/08/2013, the date of the draw for the group stages of the Europa League.
  • UEFA have noted the CAS's decisions concerning Fenerbahçe and Besiskas.
