Premier League: clubs can market the shirt sleeve as a sponsorship space from 2017-18 (press)

The Premier League has authorised, on 10/11/2016, clubs to market the sponsorship space on the right sleeve of the shirts from the 2017-18 season, according to the British newspaper The Mirror on 12/11/2016. In the current 2016-17 season, the Premier League logo appears on both shirt sleeves of the shirts of the English first division clubs.

Two clubs - a priori Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC - will not be able to market their shirt sleeves as a sponsorship space due to their main shirt sponsorship agreements, concluded with Standard Chartered (bank, £30m/€35m per season) and Yokohama Tyres (tyres, £40m/ €46m per season) respectively, which excludes the presence of another brand on the shirt (excluding their kit supplier).

Eight clubs would individually market this new sponsorship space, while 10 clubs could combine to offer a visibility package to one single sponsor, according to The Mirror. Premier League clubs could garner up to 20% of the value of their main shirt partnership for this new commercialisation of the shirt sleeve as a sponsorship space, added the British newspaper.
