Top 5: average annual salary of €3 million in the Premier League, double that of LaLiga in second

With an average salary of $3.21m (€3m as of 17/11/2016) per player, the Premier League is the the European Top 5 league with the highest average annual salary, according to "Global Sports Salaries Survey 2016", a study by the British website Sporting Intelligence and published on 14/11/2016.

The 527 players (about 26 per club) included in the study were those who were part of the 20 Premier League clubs at the time of the closing of the summer transfer window in 2016. The salaries are those for the current 2016-17 season.

After the Premier League, LaLiga Santander has the highest average wages in the European Top 5 leagues, with an average of $1.63m (€1.53m) per player, half that for the Premier League. The average annual salary is $1.45m (€1.36m) in the Serie A TIM and $1.37m (€1.28m) in the Bundesliga.

Ligue 1 is the only Top 5 league where the average annual player salary is less than one million, either in dollars ($961,638) or euros (€898,841).
