FIFA: Gianni Infantino proposes a Club World Cup of 32 teams in June 2019

A Club World Cup "with the top 32 clubs in the world", and held "from June 10th - 30th at the end of the national leagues, when the interest in football is the highest", this is the idea launched by Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, on 18/11/2016.

The current Club World Cup takes place in December (from 08/12 to 18/12/2016 in Japan for the 2016 edition) and comprises eight teams only, the winners of various continental tournaments (for example, the UEFA Champions League) and a club from the host country. "A complicated formula, a difficult period, and not very exciting. Football today is not only Europe and South America. The world has changed. So we need to build a world cup that is more interesting for the clubs, but also for fans around the world," said Gianni Infantino in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport and Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

"Is it better having a tiring tour with air travel, time differences... Or one great tournament, after which all players have time to rest?" asks the FIFA president, adding that this newly reformed…
