Media: enquiry to be held following match streamed live on Borussia Dortmund's website

The media authority of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) has launched an investigation into Borussia Dortmund (2^nd in the Bundesliga in 2012/13) after they broadcast a match live on their website, the German press revealed on the 17/07/2013. German law requires media that broadcast live content online, to have a broadcasting license.

"Delayed or on-demand broadcasting does not require a broadcasting license, but when you show a match live, it becomes a television offering," said Peter Widlock, a spokesman for the authorisation and surveillance commission of the media authority.

Borussia Dortmund broadcast their friendly match against Swiss club FC Basel live online on the 10/07/2013. The match was only available to subscribers of 'BVB total!', the club's web TV channel. These subscribers, for €4.99 per month, can gain access highlights of Dortmund matches and dedicated coverage. They also have the opportunity to watch club press conferences and friendly matches.
