Frankfurt's Commerzbank Arena will host a handball match in 2014

The Commerzbank Arena (capacity: 50,300), Eintracht Frankfurt's (6^th in the Bundesliga in 2012/13) stadium, will host a match of the German handball league in 2014, the HBL (Handball Bundesliga, German handball league) announced on the 19/07/2013.

The opening match of the German handball league in 2014/15 is between HSV Hamburg and Rhein-Neckar Löwen on the 06/09/2013. The HBL hopes to break the sport's world record attendance (36,651 at Copenhagen vs Silkeborg at the Parken Stadium, Copenhagen, for the final of the Danish championship, on the 21/05/2011).

This match will allow Stadion Frankfurt Management, the company that operates the stadium, to diversify its output, which is otherwise solely dedicated to Eintracht Frankfurt and summer concerts.

In France, an ice hockey match from the Ligue Magnus (professional league), will see the Brûleurs de Loups from Grenoble take on the Diables Rouges of Briançon at the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble (capacity: 20,000), on the 22/12/2013.
