Euro 2024: "Germany is capable of hosting" (Wolfgang Niersbach, DFB president)

"If you look at a map of Europe, I think we can say quite confidently, and not arrogantly, that we are capable of hosting such a complex tournament (Euro 2024)," said Wolfgang Niersbach, president of the DFB (Deutscher Fussball-Bund, the German football association), on the 20/07/2013.

However, this issue is dependent on the Euro 2020, which will be held across 13 cities in 13 countries. "UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) will announce the 13 host cities in September 2014...Then we will be able to decide what to do," said the DFB's president in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

Christian Seifert, CEO of the DFL (Deutscher Fussball Liga, German football league), publicly announced on the 05/06/2013, of his wish for Germany to apply to host the competition in 2024.

• Berlin and Munich are the two German cities that could be candidates to host matches of Euro 2020, including the semi-finals and finals to be held in the same stadium. On the 30/08/2013, the federation's board of directors must decide if it will support a single city or both.
