Turkey: Digiturk retains domestic TV rights to the Süper Lig until 2021-22 for €550m/year (+31%)

The Turkish pay-TV group Digiturk retains, via the TFF, for another five years, the domestic audiovisual rights to the Spor Toto Süper Lig for the period 2017-2022, announced the two parties on 21/11/2016. Digiturk acquired Lot D of the domestic audiovisual rights, which includes all rights for TV (Lot A), radio (Lot B), and mobile platforms (Lot C). The lots also includes the rights to the Turkish second division (1. Lig).

The amount Digiturk, who were acquired by beIN Media Group on 26/08/2016, would pay could be $500m (€470.7m) per season without tax, according to Turkish media. In total, Digiturk will spend around $590m per year for its rights package, or about €550m, representing a 31% increase from the previous cycle.

Digiturk has been the domestic broadcaster of the Turkish first division since 2001. The group and the Turkish Football Federation had included and exercised an extension option of the broadcast contract for the 2014-15 season, and negotiated in May 2012 for a further extension option through the 2015-2017 season.
