Mexico: Chivas matches available, in the US, via OTT subscription for $12/month starting in 2018

Club Deportivo Guadalajara SA (Liga Bancomer MX, the Mexican first division), commonly known as Chivas Guadalajara, plan to launch an OTT subscription service for fans based in the United States at $12 per month to access the broadcast its matches from 2018, according to the website Bloomberg on 24/10/2016. "Chivas" have already launched a similar offer via their Chivas TV OTT platform in the Mexican market, following the breakdown of their domestic broadcasting contract with the Mexican broadcaster Televisa in May 2016.

Univision Deportes Network, the sports-TV subsidiary of the US audiovisual group Univision Communications Inc., renewed its broadcasting rights for Chivas USA games on 20/07/2012. The group pays $80m (€75.7m on 24/11/2016) over the 2012-2017 period, according to Mexican media. According to calculations by Jose Luis Higuera, the CEO of Chivas, the club, which receives $16m (€15m) annually from Univision, expects to make $144 per year ($12 per month X 12 months = $144, or about €136) per subscription for the Chivas TV OTT platform, and would need to reach sightly more…
