Media: FC Porto president fears a conflict of interest between Benfica and its TV channel

"I find it interesting that a club is currently negotiating with other clubs for the rights to broadcast their games. It will be interesting to see the types of relationships and conflicts of interest that arise," said Pinto da Costa, president of FC Porto (Portuguese champions in 2012/13), in the daily sports newspaper O Jogo, on the 23/07/2013.

Pinto da Costa is referring to the Lisbon club SL Benfica (2^nd in the Portuguese first division in 2012/13), who launched a pay-TV channel, Benfica TV, on the 01/07/2013. Benfica TV subscribers will have access to the club's home matches in the league, Farense's (second division) home matches in the league as well as English Premier League matches.

"But if the league's intellectuals and journalists have not raised any questions about it, it may be because they feel that in the future, one sole TV channel could show all league matches," the president of FC Porto added.
