Bayern Munich: Uli Hoeness reelected president of the association, two years after his incarceration

The German Uli Hoeness was elected president of the FC Bayern München eV association at the annual general meeting of its members, on 25/11/2016. The FC Bayern München eV association holds 75% of the capital and voting rights FC Bayern München AG, the commercial company which manages the professional football section of FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga).

Uli Hoeness, who had occupied the same office between November 2009 and March 2014, collected 6986 votes in his favour, or 98.5% of the total. Uli Hoeness was the only candidate to succeed Karl Hopfner, who had chaired the Bavarian club since March 2014 and the imprisonment of former Bayern player (1970-1979). Karl Hopfner retains, at this time, the chairmanship of the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG.

Sentenced on 13/03/2014 to three and a half years in prison "for seven serious cases of tax fraud" by a court in Munich, Uli Hoeness announced his resignation from the presidency of Bayern Munich on 14/03/2016.
