Doping: 7% of drugs tests in football from 2007-2012 returned positive (Senate Commission)

"Statistics relating to the AFLD's (French Anti-Doping Agency) disciplinary activity, confirm the universality of doping in sport," indicated the Senate inquiry into the effectiveness of the fight against doping, who published a report on the 24/07/2013.

Cycling is the most affected sport between 2007 and 2012, with 13.7% of all AFLD drug tests coming back positive. Football ranks fourth with 7% of tests returning positive, behind strength sports like weightlifting and body-building (8.7%) and athletics (7.2%).

The report does not, however, specify the number of tests carried out in each sport. In 2012, for example, 1,812 samples were taken in cycling, 1,164 in athletics, 588 in rugby and 548 in football.
