Canal+ Afrique has acquired the broadcasting rights, from the CAF, to the Total Africa Cup of Nations, including Gabon 2017, announced the pay-TV group on 07/12/2016. The agreement, for a period of seven years, was negotiated by Lagardère Sports, the sports subsidiary of Lagardère Sports & Entertainment agency, and in charge of the marketing and media rights of the African Confederation until 2028.

Canal + Afrique gets, in addition to the broadcasting rights to the next four AFCONs, until 2023, the CAF Champions League, the Confederation Cup, and Super Cup, all qualifying matches for the 2018 World Cup, the finals of the Women's AFCON, AFCON U17, U20, and U23, and the AFCON Futsal.

"This acquisition allows the Groupe Canal+ to solidify its position as leading sports broadcaster in Francophone Africa. As such, we are honored to participate in the development of key events of African football on our Canal+ Sport channels in Africa," said Jacques du Puy, president of Canal+ Overseas.
