Originally scheduled for before the end of 2016, the completion of the acquisition of LOSC Lille (Ligue 1) by the Spanish-Luxembourg businessman Gerard Lopez should be completed in early January 2017, indicated the regional daily La Voix du Nord on 08/12/2016.

Gerard Lopez, head of the investment firm Genii Group and Nekton, a company specialising in the trading and investment in fossil fuels, entered into exclusive negotiations with Michel Seydoux, president and main shareholder of LOSC Lille, for the takeover of the club on 16/10/2016.

"Michel Seydoux and Gerard Lopez have reached an agreement for the sale of the LOSC, but negotiations have taken a little longer than expected, due to several essential steps in the sale process, and the arrival of the New Year celebrations, which have shifted the date of closing by approximately one month," reported the La Voix du Nord.
