Euro 2016: 2 billion unique viewers and nearly 5 billion cumulative viewers

Euro 2016, from 10/06 to 10/07/2016 drew 2 billion live unique viewers for the games, according to UEFA data released on 15/12/2016. This is about 100 million more viewers than for Euro 2012. The 2016 edition, for the first time, had 24 teams instead of 16 in the final tournament, with 20 more games of which 18 were broadcast live.

The total cumulative live audience of Euro 2016 was 4.972 billion viewers according to UEFA, representing an increase of 28.4% compared to Euro 2012 (3.873 billion) and 26.2% compared to the Euro 2008 (3.939 billion). The average audience per game was 108.4 million viewers throughout the competition, and 141 million viewers for the 27 games played in the 21:00 CET time slot.

The Euro 2016 final, won by Portugal over France (1-0, a.e.t.) at the Stade de France (Saint-Denis), drew 284.4 million viewers on average throughout the world, on 10/07/2016 (kick-off at 21:00 CET). 600 million people watched a portion of the extra time of this final.
