Media : Singapore rejects SingTel's appeal to overturn national cross-carriage of the Premier League

Singapore's ministry of communications has rejected an appeal by Singapore's pay-TV provider SingTel, searching to overturn a previous order that it must widen the distribution of the Premier League's broadcast rights in the country to other pay-TV providers in the country, on the 26/07/2013.

On the 11/10/2012, SingTel secured the broadcast rights for Singapore to all 380 Premier League live matches every season for the 2013-2016 period. The rights were acquired on a non-exclusive basis and encompassed TV, Internet and mobile platforms.

On the 24/04/2013, Singapore's MDA (Media Development Authority) noted that the agreement with the Premier League contained clauses that could prevent the content from being acquired by other pay-TV providers in Singapore, and told SingTel to apply the Cross-Carriage Measure, implemented in Singapore in 2011. The company appealed this decision.
