Twitter: 49.58 million total followers for the 20 LaLiga Santander clubs (January 2017)

The 20 clubs in the 2016-17 LaLiga Santander season have a cumulative total of 49.58 million followers on the social network Twitter, according to data compiled by News Tank Football on 02/01/2017. This result makes LaLiga Santander the most followed European Top 5 league on Twitter, with an average of 2.48 million followers per club.

Real Madrid are the most followed Spanish club, with 21.56 million followers, up 359,901 (+1.7%) compared to the beginning of December 2016. The Madrid club is the European club with the most followers on its main Twitter account.

FC Barcelona are the only club in the Top 5 leagues whose main account (the one most followed) is not in its local language, since the Catalan club has more followers on its English-language account (19,370,000) than on the Spanish one. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid (3rd, 2.63 million) comprise 38.93 million followers on their main Twitter accounts, or 88% of all the followers of La Liga clubs.
