UEFA: Reinhard Grindel (GER) the only candidate to replace Wolfgang Niersbach on the FIFA Council

Reinhard Grindel, president of the DFB, is the only individual who applied, before the deadline of 05/01/2017, for the position of European member of the FIFA Council, said UEFA on 06/01/2017.

This position became vacant following the official announcement by Wolfgang Niersbach (GER) resigning from the FIFA Council on 16/12/2016. The ballot for the two-year term will take place during the 41^st Ordinary UEFA Congress in Helsinki (FIN) on 05/04/2017. "The UEFA administration submitted the completed eligibility questionnaire for this candidate to FIFA on 06/01/2017, in order for the FIFA Review Committee to carry out the relevant eligibility check," said UEFA, the same day.

In Helsinki, four other European members will be elected to the FIFA Council for a term of four years. Five candidates submitted applications for these posts (see below). The Congress in Helsinki will also elect eight members, for four year terms, to the UEFA Executive Committee. Deadline for applications: 05/02/2017, or two months before the election.
