BBC: Sir David Clementi chosen by the British government to chair the audiovisual group

Sir David Clementi has been selected the government to chair the BBC, announced Karen Bradley, the UK Minister of Culture, Media and Sport, on 10/01/2017. He must pass an assessment before the Culture, Media and Sport Committee of the British Parliament on 17/01/2017.

This choice of the government comes after the publication (on 15/12/2016) of the new BBC charter which provides for changes in governance, including the disappearance of the BBC Trust, the group's decision-making body, replaced by an administration board, "a unitary structure". David Clementi had launched an independent audit conducted on the governance and regulation of the BBC in the discussions for the new charter, and in which he suggested dissolving the BBC Trust and proposed enhanced oversight of the BBC by Ofcom, on 03/01/2016.

David Clementi should lead the council to replace the BBC Trust, according to British media. He will thus replace Rona Fairhead who announced on 13/09/2016 that she did not wish to renew her mandate as chairwoman of the BBC Trust, which began in August 2014.
