RB Leipzig (Bundesliga) will become owner of the stadium in which it operates, Red Bull Arena (42,959 seats), the club announced on 22/12/2016. The club has reached an agreement with the current owner of Red Bull Arena, the businessman Michael Kölmel, to purchase the sporting complex which includes Red Bull Arena, two buildings, a green space, and the Leipzig "Bell Tower".

"However, the final purchase depends on the agreement of the City of Leipzig and the competent authorities," said the club on 22/12/2016. The amount of the purchase of the sporting complex is estimated at €70m. RB Leipzig should renovate the stadium and increase its capacity from 42,959 to 57,000 seats. This work should start in 2018 and cost the club about €40m, according to German media on 22/12/2016.
