BBC: D. Clementi (future chairman) requests a review of the list of events broadcast free-to-air

Sir David Clementi, future chairman of the BBC, has requested a review and revision of the list of "Crown Jewels" events, or sporting events which must be broadcast free-to-air, during his hearing before the Committee for Culture, Media, and Sport in the House of Commons of the British Parliament on 17/01/2017.

The Parliament Committee for Culture, Media and Sport approved the government's choice to appoint Sir David Clementi to chair the BBC, on 18/01/2017. Sir Clementi must now receive approval (ceremonial) from the private consul to Queen Elizabeth II, after which he will be officially appointed. On 04/01/2017, British media reported David Clementi should lead the council to replace the BBC Trust. He will thus replace Rona Fairhead who announced on 13/09/2016 that she did not wish to renew her mandate as chairwoman of the BBC Trust, which began in August 2014.

David Clementi regrets in particular that "The Open Championship", the major British golf tournament, whose rights were acquired by pay-TV group Sky on 03/02/2015, is not on the British list of protected events for live…
