Bundesliga: resumption of the 2016-17 season with Matchday 17 from 20 to 22/01/2017

SC Freiburg - Bayern Munich (Matchday 17 of the Bundesliga), scheduled on Friday evening, 20/01/2017 (kick-off at 20:30 CET), is the first Bundesliga match of 2017 after a break of one month. The other eight games of Matchday 17 day will be played on on Saturday 21 and Sunday, 22/01/2017.

The previous matchday was held on 20 and 21/12/2016. In the table, Bayern Munich, who have won the four previous seasons, is again in the lead (39 points; 12 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss), 3 points ahead of the newly promoted Bundesliga club RB Leipzig (36 points; 11 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses).

The average attendance during the first portion of the 2016-17 Bundesliga season was 41,195 spectators per game, for an average stadium fill rate of 92%. Borussia Dortmund (6^th place after 16 matchdays, with 27 points) have not only the best average attendance in the Bundesliga, with 81,178 fans per game, but also the best mark in Europe.

Before the resumption of the German league, the DFL announced, on 19/01/2017, that Video Assistant Referees will be used for all Bundesliga games in 2017-18.
