MLS: Target (retail group) becomes partner of new franchise Minnesota United FC and the league

The American retail group Target has become the shirt sponsor of Minnesota United FC (the 22^nd MLS franchise, beginning play in the 2017 season), announced the club on 19/01/2017. The exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Target will benefit in particular from visibility at TCF Bank Stadium, where Minnesota United FC will play during their inaugural 2017 season, before moving to their own United Stadium in 2018 (see below).

"We look forward to helping launch Minnesota United FC to the world and bring soccer to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota), which has been Target's hometown for more than 50 years," said Rick Gomez, SVP for marketing at Target, on 19/01/2017.

Target also became an official partner of MLS. This agreement could be for three years, according to US media. "Target's MLS partnership will include brand integration across platforms, including broadcast, digital, video, content, in-stadium and on-site activation at marquee MLS events," stated the North American professional soccer league on 19/01/2017.
