UK: BT Sport to increase subscriptions, via BT TV, by £3.50 / month from 01/08/2017

Subscribers of the BT TV (triple play) offer will pay an additional £3.50 (€4) per month for BT Sport from 01/08/2017, said the British pay-TV group on 20/01/2017. Subscribers to BT Broadband (internet and phone service) will see their monthly bill rise by £5 (€5.80) from the 01/04/2017. BT Sport was, until now, offered free to subscribers of the BT TV offer (from £44.99 per month, or €52.40) and BT Broadband (£33.99 or €39.60).

Those who access BT Sport via Sky offers must pay an extra £1 per month (£22.99, € 26.70) from 20/01/2017. This rate increase aims to compensate for the higher price of TV rights to the Premier League, a total amount which has risen 67% since the 2013-2016 cycle (see below). In the UK, BT Sport acquired, for £960m (€1.1bn), the TV rights to 42 Premier League games per season for the 2016-2019 cycle.
