Media: GMM Grammy acquires the rights to Euro 2016 in Thailand

Thai broadcaster GMM Grammy has acquired the rights to broadcast Euro 2016 in Thailand, the company announced on the 02/08/2013.

The broadcaster will show the 51 games of the tournament, which will take place in France (from the 10/06 to the 10/07/2016), on GMM Sport channel, which is available via GMM Z satellite platform.

"Obtaining the licence will stimulate viewing demand in the market as well as strengthen the company's wherewithal to compete and thus will help increase revenue and create added value to the company's satellite television business," said Premon Pinskul, chief financial officer at GMM Grammy.

  • Grammy had the rights to Euro 2012, and sublicensed them in Thailand to Channel 3, Channel 5 and Modernine TV.
  • The broadcaster also had the rights to the 2013 European U-21 Championships the Women’s Euro 2013.
  • The broadcast rights to the 2014 World Cup were acquired in Thailand by RS International Broadcasting & Sports Management.
