Bundesliga: audiences on Sky for the first 17 matchdays of 2016-17 may be underestimated by AGF

At mid-season of the 2016-17 season, the Bundesliga has drawn nearly 54.63 million cumulative viewers on the channels of the pay-TV group Sky Deutschland, according to data of the German institutes of audience measurement AGF and GfK.

However, the AGF institute has acknowledged that it has made an error in assessing the Sky pay-TV channels during the calendar year 2016, on 12/01/2017: AGF considers that it may have underestimated the Sky Deutschland audiences by about 16% on average over 2016.

At mid-season of the 2015-16 Bundesliga, about 61.46 million cumulative viewers had watched the games on Sky Bundesliga channels.

Therefore, considering the error margin of AGF, instead of an 11% drop in the cumulative audiences on Sky Deutschland for the first half of the 2016-17 season compared to the same period of 2015-16, the private TV group may have actually registered an increase in the audiences for Bundesliga games.
