Glasgow Rangers: Walter Smith resigns as club's chairman

Walter Smith has resigned Glasgow Rangers chairman (SFL Second Division, Scottish 3rd division), on the 05/08/2013. This decision is "effective immediately," the club announced. Walter Smith was the non-executive chairman of the Scottish club since the 30/05/2013.

"Of course I am very disappointed, but the only thing I can do is to respect his choice. He made his decision and he has his own reasons for doing it," said Ally McCoist, coach of the Rangers, on the 06/08/2013.

"Working with a board which could rarely find consensus and agreement has created a highly dysfunctional environment which has not been good for the club," said Walter Smith on the 05/08/2013. "It is clear that boardroom change is required and I would urge Rangers fans to get fully behind the resolutions which were presented to the board and shareholders (on the 02/08/2013)," he added.
